What your caterer needs to know

Catering tips from DiAntonio's Catering in Philadelphia

All of our dishes are made from fresh, seasonal ingredients from local Philadelphia farms.

Planning a big event is a huge ordeal. It requires a lot of planning, organizing, and budgeting. Choosing a menu is just one item on your to-do list, but before you go sending off a list of your favorite foods to a local catering service, there are a few things we need to cover first.

Planning the perfect menu for your event isn’t just about making great dishes. There are much more things to be taken into consideration.

Location, location, location

Before we can choose an appropriate (and delicious) menu, we need to know where we’re going to be serving the food. If you have an outdoor buffet, we’re going to plan different dishes than we would for an indoor sit-down dinner. If it’s a multi-room location, we may want to set up a few serving stations or buffet tables, so everyone doesn’t end up in one single room.

Guess how many are coming to dinner

The last thing a catering company wants to do is guess how people are coming to your event. Of course, we’ll always make a little extra food because we know our food is delicious, but having a realistic estimate of expected guests is always helpful. The number of guests will also help us decide on the best types of dishes to make.

Food allergies and restrictions

Before you sit down with our executive chef to plan a menu and taste a few dishes, talk to your guests about any food allergies or restrictions.

Don’t forget to add some desserts to your catered event.

Who’s bringing the equipment?

Talk to your catering service and find out what they are bringing besides the food. Is there anything you need to provide, like linens and tableware, or does your catering service come with everything necessary? Do they come with servers? Even a buffet table needs to be cleared and restocked, and someone has to pour the cocktails. If you have an outdoor party, you also need to find out what access you have to electricity, water, and shade.

With all the logistics out of the way, it’s time to sit down with our executive chef and try a few samples of our mouth-watering dishes made from scratch using fresh, seasonal ingredients from local Philadelphia farms.
